DVD Editorial Review

**** "BULLETS OR BALLOTS" is a classic 1936 gangster film that delivers a thrilling mix of suspense and action, showcasing the talents of iconic actors Edward G. Robinson, Humphrey Bogart, and Joan Blondell. The plot centers on Robinson's character, a determined New York City detective who goes undercover in a crime syndicate to dismantle it from within. Robinson shines as a compelling lead, expertly portraying an unconventional hero while stepping away from his usual gangster roles. Fans of Robinson will appreciate this departure, although many may still prefer his typical portrayals of the tough, street-smart criminal. The film features an electrifying performance from Bogart, who captivates audiences as the skeptical and trigger-happy gangster Bugs Fenner. His chemistry with Robinson adds depth to the narrative, culminating in a gripping power struggle that keeps viewers engaged. Blondell’s role as a supporting character rounds out an already stellar cast, contributing to the strong ensemble dynamic. While "BULLETS OR BALLOTS" may not reach the same legendary status as films like "Key Largo" or "White Heat," it stands out as an entertaining gangster flick of the 1930s era, complete with an unexpected, satisfying ending. Its blend of crime drama and character conflict makes it a must-see for lovers of the genre and veterans of classic cinema alike. **
