Avant Garde & Free Jazz Editorial Review
**** "Going Back Home" stands out as a remarkable collaboration in the world of jazz, showcasing the talents of legendary artists Ginger Baker, Bill Frisell, and Charlie Haden. This album, despite being released in 1994, has garnered significant acclaim from listeners who are discovering its joys anew. The interplay between the musicians is heralded as top-notch, with each artist bringing their unique flavor to the blend, particularly Baker's impressive jazz drumming skills, which some listeners previously underestimated based on his rock background. Bill Frisell's atmospheric guitar lends a distinctive texture to the tracks, drawing in both longtime fans and new listeners alike. He is particularly recognized for his inventive style, effortlessly weaving through complex melodies that both captivate and invite relaxed listening. Meanwhile, Charlie Haden's melodic bass lines add further depth, creating a harmonious foundation that supports and complements the percussion and guitar. The album features a range of standout tracks such as "I Lu Kron," "Ramblin'," and "Straight, No Chaser," all resonating with listeners who appreciate the trio's chemistry and musical dialogue. The ambiance oscillates between serious listening and background enjoyment, making it versatile for various settings. Notably, tracks infused with emotional sentiment, like "East Timor," showcase a deeper connection reflective of Baker's artistry. In summary, "Going Back Home" earns its place as a favorite for jazz enthusiasts and serves as a testament to the impressive range and adaptability of its talented players. It's a must-have album for anyone looking to appreciate a sophisticated blend of jazz nuances. **
