Answer: I have the XRS551-C, look on the plain smooth back side on the very every end away from the View screen end there is a small Arrow etched in the cover hold the remote In your hand Back side up and slide your thumb inn direction of Arrow, cover will open and there is a label above the Batteries, the Label has the Model number on it. -

Will this remote work with xrs551-D?
Answer: I'd keep looking because the one with the LED screen is a whole lot better but the one without the LED screen probably wouldn't work with what you got -

Does this remote have the 'surround' screen to adjust?
Answer: This remote has all the features of the original remote that came with the system. -

Why does it not have a brighter read out on it?
Answer: It most definitely should have a brighter read on it. When using in low light it is extremely difficult to adjust sound bar settings. However it does have buttons that make it easier, and not as necessary to read the display. -

The original remote can control the rear speakers and subwoofer, does this replacement remote have that capability?
Answer: It does have the capability control the subwoofer and rear speakers. The problem is probably with your soundbar. I know with 100% certainty that remote works with rear speakers and sound bar
