Blocking the closed section of mesh with tape prevents grackles from eating even when the feeder closes, but they can eat out of other feeders. The bird feeder should be cleaned every 3-4 weeks in a 1/10 bleach solution. Replacement parts are available from the manufacturer. The feeder can be hung from a pole or with a short hook but still stays squirrel-proof. The feeder has 4 feeding ports, and even larger birds can access seeds despite their size.
