What is the scale length of the Elixir 14677 Bass Strings?

The Elixir 14677 Bass 4-String Long Scale features a scale length of 34 inches, designed specifically for long scale bass guitars. This length is ideal for achieving a balanced tone and comfortable playability, allowing for a fuller sound across all the strings. Musicians often prefer long scale strings for genres like rock and jazz, where clarity and sustain are crucial.

What are the benefits of using Elixir coated bass strings?

Elixir coated bass strings are known for their exceptional longevity and resistance to dirt and grime, thanks to their patented coating technology. This means that players can enjoy the bright tone and smooth feel for an extended period without frequent changes. This makes them particularly suitable for gigging musicians who need reliable performance on stage.

Are Elixir 14677 Bass Strings suitable for all playing styles?

Yes, Elixir 14677 Bass Strings are versatile enough to accommodate various playing styles, including fingerstyle, slap, and pick playing. Their balanced tension and bright tonal character make them adaptable for different genres such as funk, rock, and pop. Musicians find them easy to play, making them a favorite among both amateurs and professionals.

How do Elixir strings compare to traditional unwound strings?

Compared to traditional unwound strings, Elixir 14677 Bass Strings offer a distinctive advantage with their coated surface. While traditional strings may lose clarity and sound quality quickly due to wear and dirt buildup, Elixir strings maintain their tone over time. This durability means that they provide a reliable sound performance for longer sessions, ideal for recording or live shows.

What materials are used in Elixir 14677 Bass Strings?

Elixir 14677 Bass Strings are made from high-quality nickel-plated steel wrapped around a steel core. This combination results in a rich, warm tone with enhanced sustain and projection. Additionally, the proprietary coating protects the strings from corrosion, making them reliable for extended use in various environmental conditions.

How do I properly clean and maintain my Elixir bass strings?

To maintain your Elixir 14677 Bass Strings, wipe them gently with a soft cloth after each use to remove any oils and dirt. This habit helps preserve the coating's effectiveness and extends the strings' life. Regular cleaning ensures that you retain the bright sound quality and feel, which is crucial during performances or recording sessions.

Can I use Elixir 14677 Bass Strings on a shorter scale bass guitar?

While Elixir 14677 Bass Strings are designed for long scale bass guitars, they can technically be used on shorter scale instruments. However, keep in mind that the overall tension and sound may differ, affecting playability and tone. Players with short scale basses might want to consider specifically labeled short scale strings for optimal performance.

What gauge are the Elixir 14677 Bass Strings?

The Elixir 14677 Bass 4-String Long Scale strings typically feature a gauge of .045, .065, .085, and .105. This gauge combination provides an excellent balance between flexibility and firmness, making them comfortable for various playing styles while ensuring the bass can deliver a deep, punchy sound. Musicians appreciate this gauge for its versatility in different musical settings.

What makes Elixir strings ideal for live performances?

Elixir 14677 Bass Strings are particularly suitable for live performances due to their durability and stable tuning. The coating technology helps reduce the need for frequent string changes, allowing musicians to focus more on their performance. Many bassists opt for these strings during gigs to ensure they maintain a consistent sound while performing extensively.
