However, to keep the binoculars steady and to track the plane, a tripod with a video head is needed. Although suitable for plane spotting, these binoculars are not recommended for police surveillance as the magnification of anything over 10x reduces the field of view, making it hard to find objects and keep them on target. However, when it comes to stargazing, the 15x70 binoculars are recommended over the 25x70 version. Although both have the same 70mm objective lens for light gathering, 25x magnification is too high to hold still even with a tripod. For more detailed views of the planetary system, a telescope is recommended. Overall, the Celestron SkyMaster 25x70 Binoculars are a great buy for casual scanning of the sky and observations of high altitude aircraft with the need for a tripod.
